This position can be either on-call part-time or on a regular weekly schedule. If on a weekly schedule, than the position requires a long-term commitment, in which much activity will be studio management, maintenance, expansion, and coordinating rental of this studio, (www.boastudios.com) to other photographers and visual professionals, as well as assisting with digital imaging.
It requires a high level of film-based and digital photography technical expertise, together with full-time assisting experience in Toronto of at least 2 years, or 4 years of continuous part-time-time freelance assisting in Toronto. School time does not count as professional experience.
Applicants with less experience, or lacking any of the above qualifications, will only be considered for the internship program. Do to the high number of applicants for this position, please do not apply for the paid position if you do not meet this criteria.
YOU...
have high-level experience with digital capture workflow, software, and color management
have complete knowledge and significant working experience with current Canon and Nikon digital SLR's, Phase One, Hasselblad and Leaf digital capture backs, Sinar 4x5 & Betterlight backs, Fuji GX 680 III, Mamiya AFD, Hasselblad H and V systems, as well as Profoto & Speedtron strobes. Knowing basic HD video capture using DSLR's such as 5DII, 7D, and D7000, and continuous film & video lighting is a must.
are comfortable working with typical hand tools, doing such things like basic repairs, studio maintenance, rigging, basic electrical, building and prepping props, etc.
are passionate and knowledgeable about both the local and international commercial photography industry. You look at award annuals, read PDN, are a member of CAPIC, etc.
have a healthy attitude about doing all types of jobs, no matter how challenging (helping shoot a job, casting, propping) or menial they are (like doing dishes, taking out the trash, cleaning, stuffing envelopes, etc). Primadonnas need not apply.

You are a Toronto area programmer with several years experience in C/C++, Java, JavaScript, and ActionScript style languages. You are well-versed and experienced with Flash MX ActionScript, including advanced dynamic methods like loadVariables and attachMovie. You must have understanding of dynamic internet content, with knowledge of ASP, PHP, MySQL.
Being self-motivated and showing initiative for solving problems, you realize that these strengths are the foundation of this position. You will be working closely with the creative and technical creators of the content management system used in this site, and will have many opportunities for advanced learning and contributing to the growth of this unique system. Your main responsibility will be converting progressive Flash interface designs and ideas provided to you, and integrating them with an advanced SQL database that powers them. Your secondary responsibility will be to continue adding features to the management system, and creating auxiliary utilities for production and marketing of it.
Other project opportunities in this position are Flash game programming, custom site programming, and web application creation.
