  • This position can be either on-call part-time or on a regular weekly schedule. If on a weekly schedule, than the position requires a long-term commitment, in which much activity will be studio management, maintenance, expansion, and coordinating rental of this studio, (www.boastudios.com) to other photographers and visual professionals, as well as assisting with digital imaging.
  •  

  • It requires a high level of film-based and digital photography technical expertise, together with full-time assisting experience in Toronto of at least 2 years, or 4 years of continuous part-time-time freelance assisting in Toronto. School time does not count as professional experience.
  •  

  • Applicants with less experience, or lacking any of the above qualifications, will only be considered for the internship program. Do to the high number of applicants for this position, please do not apply for the paid position if you do not meet this criteria.
  •  

    YOU... 

     

  • have high-level experience with digital capture workflow, software, and color management
  •  

  • have complete knowledge and significant working experience with current Canon and Nikon digital SLR's, Phase One, Hasselblad and Leaf digital capture backs, Sinar 4x5 & Betterlight backs, Fuji GX 680 III, Mamiya AFD, Hasselblad H and V systems, as well as Profoto & Speedtron strobes. Knowing basic HD video capture using DSLR's such as 5DII, 7D, and D7000, and continuous film & video lighting is a must.
  •  

  • are comfortable working with typical hand tools, doing such things like basic repairs, studio maintenance, rigging, basic electrical, building and prepping props, etc.
  •  

  • are passionate and knowledgeable about both the local and international commercial photography industry. You look at award annuals, read PDN, are a member of CAPIC, etc.
  •  

  • have a healthy attitude about doing all types of jobs, no matter how challenging (helping shoot a job, casting, propping) or menial they are (like doing dishes, taking out the trash, cleaning, stuffing envelopes, etc). Primadonnas need not apply.
  •  

  • like stylistic variety and can rise to any production challenge.
  •  

  • enjoy working as part of a team, and are a good communicator, and an efficient organizer of yourself and others
  •  

  • have computer and internet skills, including a comfortable working knowledge of Mac OS X, Scanning, Photoshop, and digital photography.
  •  

  • are very accurate, organized, responsible, and punctual.
  •  

  • speak clearly with a good verbal and written command of the English language.
  •  

  • have good physical strength and endurance, and medium to tall height. Not afraid of heights.
  •  

  • good attitude with sometimes having to go into overtime at short notice.
  •  

  • have a valid driver's license and clean auto driving record, and ideally are also comfortable running local errands around the city on a bicycle (because we are an environmentally-friendly business).
  •  

  • can demonstrate great technical and lighting proficiency in your sample images. Creativity is a good asset, but it's knowing the technical stuff that keeps things flowing smoothly.
  •

  • cover letter, clearly indicating whether you are applying for internship or are advanced enough to be applying for employment.

  • your detailed resume (PDF, Word) describing your work and personal experience with good detail, in the above mentioned areas.

  • attach between 5-10 samples showing technical mastery and above-average production challenges. Do not send vacation snaps. These should be between 600x800 to 1000x1500 pixels, saved using Photoshop's "save for web" command, with a maximum file size of 300k each. Alternatively, you can send a link to a website showing these images. Please do not send emails that are in excess of 2mb total size.
  •  

  • Applicants not having required experience and not submitting proper samples should expect to only be considered for unpaid internship positions at first, providing an opportunity to prove themselves before being hired.
  •  

  • This is not a salaried position, but rather a participatory compensation based on the value of the projects worked on and the total responsibility for that project. The bottom line is: when we make money...you make money.
